Asopalav Lawns: Somnath's Hidden Paradise (Luxury Lawn You NEED to See!) - My Honest, Messy Review!
Alright, buckle up folks, because you're about to get the REAL story about Asopalav Lawns. Forget the perfectly curated Instagram shots – this is my experience, warts and all. And trust me, there are a few… let’s call them quirks. But hey, that's what makes travel memorable, right?
First things first: The Vibe (and the Location, Duh!)
So, Somnath. Holy ground. Literally. And Asopalav? It's tucked away, feeling almost – dare I say it – secret. That secluded, luxury lawn angle is absolutely spot on. It's got that whole "oasis of calm" thing going on, which is exactly what you need after braving the crowds and heat of the temple. Finding it? No sweat. Accessibility is pretty decent. They offer airport transfer, which is a massive win after that long flight. Plus, they have car park [free of charge], car park [on-site], AND valet parking. Seriously, they've thought of everything. Which is needed, because driving in India is… an experience. And yes, it’s all in the zone of CCTV with security [24-hour] and CCTV outside property. Okay, now to dig deeper into the experience…
Checking In & Getting Comfortable
The check-in? They're supposed to offer Contactless check-in/out, which is great in this post-pandemic world. But the human element is key. The staff were friendly, though sometimes a bit… eager. I felt like I was being hovered over initially. I'm sure they are just trying to be nice, I bet. But I'm an introvert, and frankly, I just wanted to unpack and collapse. They have Facilities for disabled guests listed, which is fantastic. Also, the Elevator is a life-saver because my knees are not what they used to be, and the rooms are spread across the hotel. My room? Okay, it's all about the room details.
My Room: The Good, the "Meh," and the "Wait, What Was That Noise?"
Okay, so picture this: I went for a Non-smoking room (obviously!). It had Air conditioning, praise be! Free Wi-Fi. Bonus! I love my Wi-Fi [free]. Plus there was a lovely Window that opens. The bed was huge and comfy. The Blackout curtains were a lifesaver for those epic naps I needed. They also had an Ironing facilities, which I barely use, but is good to know is available. The Private bathroom was spacious, and the Bathrobes & Slippers were a nice touch. I like a good bathrobe. Rooms sanitized between stays and Room sanitization opt-out available plus a Safe/security feature and Smoke detector, which made me feel safe. It’s a great way to ensure the utmost safety and hygiene. The "Meh" Part: The decor was a bit… generic. A little more personality in the room wouldn't go amiss. I also missed my kettle! Then there are the amenities available in the room, like Alarm clock, Coffee/tea maker, Complimentary tea, Free bottled water, Mirror, Refrigerator, Scale, Seating area, Separate shower/bathtub, Shower, Socket near the bed, Telephone, Toiletries, Towels, Umbrella, Wake-up service. However, where was the kettle? The "Wait, What Was That Noise?" There was a weird clicking sound emanating from somewhere behind the wall the first couple of nights. I think it was just the AC, but my brain kept conjuring up images of mice. Or worse. Maybe it's just me! I even asked the front desk what it was, the staff were quick to help, but were unable to know what it was, they went and checked the room after and the noise had stopped. Okay, now the best part, the amenities!
Pampering & Play: Poolside Bliss & Spa Shenanigans
The Swimming pool [outdoor] is gorgeous. Seriously Instagrammable with the view. The Pool with view is absolutely stunning! Finding the perfect spot was essential, and the Happy hour at the Poolside bar was a welcome treat. The bar itself was a nice, relaxed place to sink some cocktails. I tried the Massage. And. Oh. My. God. It was heaven. The spa is lovely, and I tried the Sauna, Spa/sauna, Steamroom, too. They have a Gym/fitness center if you are into any of that. They also have Foot bath, Body scrub and Body wrap, which I tried! I honestly thought it was going to be weird. But no, it was SO relaxing. I practically melted into a puddle of blissful goo. That was the defining experience that I had at the hotel, and I still remember it! I definitely felt relaxed, and the Family/child friendly atmosphere makes it a good pick for everyone.
Food, Glorious Food (And Some Quirky Bits)
The dining experience? A mixed bag. The Breakfast [buffet] was decent, with a good spread of Asian breakfast, Western breakfast, and all the usual suspects. However, the coffee was, let's be honest, a bit weak. Their Asian cuisine in restaurant and Western cuisine in restaurant were amazing! They even had a Vegetarian restaurant – a huge plus for me. I also tried Desserts in restaurant, Soup in restaurant, Salad in restaurant, and every single food item was amazing! They have 24-hour Room service, if you fancy that. I did try this out, and it was great!
Bits & Bobs: The Extras and the "Eh, Not Really"
- Internet & Tech: The Internet access – wireless was generally good and I even got to experience Internet access – LAN! The Wi-Fi in public areas was also good. There’s also the Laptop workspace.
- Services and Conveniences: Daily housekeeping, Laundry service, and Dry cleaning – all super handy. Shout out to the housekeeping folks for being so efficient!
- For the Kids: I didn't have any kids with me, but the Babysitting service and Kids meal options are a nice touch.
Cleanliness & Safety: Doing Things Right
I felt safe. They obviously take hygiene seriously. I saw Anti-viral cleaning products, Hand sanitizer, and Daily disinfection in common areas. You get the feeling they take hygiene seriously. Facilities for disabled guests are amazing! They also offer Cashless payment service for extra convenience! Having Doctor/nurse on call is something I always look for. They also have First aid kit and Safety/security feature!
The "Things to Do" Factor
Well, you're in Somnath! Literally within walking distance of the temple (ish). The Shrine is a must-see, obviously. But honestly, the hotel is so relaxing, you might just want to chill by the pool or get another massage. They have an Indoor venue for special events, and an Outdoor venue for special events, too. The Meetings facilities are there! I didn't try these, but for the business traveler, they have Audio-visual equipment for special events, Business facilities, Projector/LED display, Seminars.
My Verdict: Is Asopalav Lawns Worth It?
Absolutely. Despite the minor niggles (the clicking, the slightly underwhelming coffee), the positives far outweigh the negatives. It truly is a hidden paradise. The staff are generally lovely and helpful (just maybe give them a little space!). The pool and spa are pure bliss. And the location? Perfect for exploring Somnath or simply escaping the chaos.

Alright, buckle up buttercups, because this ain't your grandma's perfectly-polished travel itinerary. This is a chaotic, heartfelt, and probably slightly-exaggerated account of my trip to Asopalav Lawns in Somnath. Prepare for the mess!
Day 1: Arrival – The Great Mango Mania (and Mild Disaster)
- Morning (8:00 AM): Touchdown in Diu. Supposed to be a breeze, connecting flight. Famous last words. Delayed by an hour (classic!), which meant my meticulously planned "sunrise yoga on the beach to align my chakras" was replaced with a frantic dash to the rental car. Already sweating. Not a good start, karma, not a good start.
- Breakfast (10:00 AM): Found this little roadside stall near the airport. Ordered a plate of puri bhaji and a mango lassi. The bhaji was okay; needed more spice. But the lassi…oh my god, the mango lassi! It was liquid sunshine. I swear, I almost went back for a second. Okay, I did go back for a second. Definitely a highlight.
- Afternoon (12:00 PM): Drive to Somnath (About 1.5 hours). The scenery? Breathtaking. Lush green fields, villages buzzing with life, and the occasional cow just casually strolling across the road. That's India, baby.
- Arrival at Asopalav Lawns (1:30 PM): Checked in. Lawns are decent, big enough where you can't find somebody to bother you. The room? Pleasantly simple, a little dusty, but clean enough.
- Afternoon (2:30 PM): Lunch at the hotel restaurant. Standard buffet fare. The dal was surprisingly good. The chapatis? Bit dry. Overall, okay.
- Afternoon (2:00 PM): I had read in the brochure that they had a "relaxing massage," I had to start with that before seeing the temple or the beach. It wasn't relaxing. I mean, the massage therapist was probably very skilled, but he kept humming, which, for some reason, really annoyed me. And then, the aroma oils were a bit too "intense." My skin now smells like a mix of sandalwood and…something vaguely floral. I'm not sure if that's a good thing yet.
- Evening (5:00 PM): Finally, to the Somnath Temple. Absolutely overwhelming. The sheer scale of it, the energy, the chanting… it was a sensory overload, in the best way possible. I found myself just standing there, mouth agape, feeling a weird mix of awe and… I don’t know… something emotional. It's hard to describe.
- Dinner (7:30 PM): Back at the hotel. Ate dinner. Forgot what I ate. Pretty sure it involved rice.
- Night (9:00 PM): Attempted to watch TV. The selection was limited to Bollywood dramas and cricket (which I don't understand). Gave up and stared at the ceiling. Wondering if that mango lassi was still going to give me that weird, sugar-induced energy boost.
Day 2: Beach, and Spiritual Overload
- Morning (7:00 AM): Woke up to the sound of… construction. Lovely. The charming village sounds were totally canceled out. Coffee, stale.
- Breakfast (8:00 AM): The hotel buffet again. Ate too many idlis. Regret.
- Morning (9:00 AM): Beach time! The Somnath Beach. Beautiful! The ocean was a gorgeous turquoise, the sand was soft, and there was this tiny little cafe where I got a coffee. I had a moment of pure bliss, just watching the waves. Then, I got sand in my shoes.
- Morning (11:00 AM): Back to the Somnath Temple. This time, I wandered around the grounds. I looked at other people's offerings. I got involved in some rituals. I felt… something. I'm not religious, but there's a powerful sense of history and faith that hangs heavy in the air.
- Lunch (1:00 PM): Tried a local restaurant – seafood. The fish was good, but my stomach is being a bit of a diva, so I needed a nap. (I am getting too old to handle this amount of salt.)
- Afternoon (3:00 PM): Massive, needed nap. Woke up groggy and grumpy.
- Afternoon (4:00 PM): The sun started to set. The Temple looks even more beautiful, bathed in golden light. The place was so serene, I sat there for nearly an hour. It was magical.
- Dinner (8:00 PM): Decided to try to go to an Indian restaurant. Had to get a rickshaw. Found a little place. I ordered too much food and got a stomach ache again because of the spices.
- Evening (9:00 PM): I got a call from my mother asking how I was doing. “Mom, I love you. No, it's been great!”, I said, then I burst into tears. Not sure why. Probably the mango lassi's fault. Or maybe it's just the travel. It's hard. Being here, I feel like I am closer to myself. But also, completely lost.
Day 3: Departure - The Mango Lassi's Legacy
- Morning (7:00 AM): The construction noise is back. I don’t know why they have to do that at dawn.
- Breakfast (8:00 AM): One last, very rushed, attempt at the buffet. Ate a croissant. Regret.
- Morning (9:00 AM): Packed. Got completely lost in a mental spiral about what I should pack. Eventually, I said "screw it," and just threw everything in.
- Checkout (10:00 AM): Saying goodbye to Asopalav Lawns. It wasn't perfect, but it was an experience. And the staff? Always smiling!
- Morning (10:30 AM): On the way to the airport. One final craving: Mango lassi! I was determined to find one.
- Lunch (12:00 AM): Found a shack near the airport! Got my last mango lassi. As I drank it, I was overwhelmed with the feeling of… pure, unadulterated joy. The mango lassi was, without a doubt, the star of the show.
- Afternoon (1:00 PM): Diu Airport again. This time, the flight was only delayed for half an hour. Win!
- Departure(2:00 PM): Adios Somnath! Until next time. I am exhausted, emotionally drained, slightly sunburnt, and probably carrying a kilo of sand in my shoes, but I wouldn't trade this trip for anything. It was messy, imperfect, and full of mango lassi greatness. And that’s the way I want to remember it.
